CENOR initiated a study last June on a tunnel crossing under Mount Setiha as part of improvements to National Highway 43 in the administrative province of Skikda in Algeria. The studies that CENOR will conduct will begin with the completion of a preliminary study and extend later to studies in the APS and APD phases.
This is the third project that CENOR has developed in Algeria. In 2009, it was awarded a project to carry out civil construction works for the Algiers Metro Line 1 Extension A. In 2011, it completed the APD for a railway bridge linking the cities of Thenia and Bordj Bou Arredidj. However, this is the first contract that the company has won as an individual competitor, reflecting the major efforts it has made to enter the market.
Expected to measure around 850 metres in length, the tunnel is intended not only to shorten the current route but also increase its safety. It will be comprised of a single tunnel for two-way traffic.
