DESCRIPTION

The lowering of the railroad crossing in the city of Espinho was part of the modernization of the North Line. It consisted on the construction of a railway infrastructure with 1.950m long track, involving the construction of a false tunnel with a extension of about 954m and two stretches in path of about 498m each. The recommended solution for the contention of a maximum height of 10m consisted of diaphragm walls propped, in the zone of the cut and cover tunnel, by the roof slab at an early stage and in the area of the ramps by metal struts.
The excavation involved landfills, dune sands, and the bedrock constituted by shales and schists
moderately weathered.
