DESCRIPTION

Pretarouca’s Bridge was developed from the necessity of restoring the roadway between Pretarouca and Dornas, replacing the previously existing, which would be submerged by the reservoir of Balsemão River Dam. The bridge is located in the new stretch of EM521, comprising an overall length of 202m, between abutments, consisting of a continuous 3 spans deck, with a central span, 75m long, and side spans of 63,5m.
The superstructure, with a platform 8,5m wide, consists of a reinforced concrete single-celled box-girder, casted “in situ”, with vertical webs of variable height, prestressed longitudinally.
The reinforced concrete piers, with a maximum height of 18,5m, have a variable hollow shaft section and the abutments are apparent, consisting of massive walls directly supported by the foundation. Given the results of the geological and geotechnical assessment, foundations are on footings in all the supports.
