The Viaduct over the Caldeirões Stream, is located in the 3.1 Stretch – Barreiro/Algarvia of the Expressway Concession on S. Miguel Island, Azores, which has been contracted for 406 million Euros, to a consortium led by Ferrovial-Agroman at the beginning of 2007. This road project, consisting in the intervention in a road network and infrastructures, including works on redesigning and upgrading a total of 16,1km, design and construction of 52,9km and operation of existing sections with 24,7km, was finished in 2011.
This viaduct has 4 spans and a total length of 315,35m between abutments, comprising 2 middle spans of 100,8m each and 2 side spans of 64,8m and 48,95m at the west and east side, respectively, and consists of a post-tensioned prestressed concrete deck, with precast segments, built by the cantilever launching method with a launching girder. The highest pier reaches 91,5m above the ground.
