DESCRIPTION

The reservoir has the function of storing waste water resulting from the mine’s production process.

The rockfill embankment that encloses the reservoir, with a maximum height of 28m above the foundation, has an extension at the crest of 629m and a volume of 400.000m3. The remaining perimeter of the reservoir is bounded by escavation slopes with 21m height.

All the reservoir is sealed using a double system with an HDPE geomembrane placed over a bentonite geocomposite. The storage volume of the reservoir is of 1.450.000m3.

This reservoir has a 5m wide Creager spillway, an emergency bottom-withdrawal siphon spillway and a rainwater diversion channel, which diverts the generated flows to the reservoir catchment area.
