DESCRIPTION

Between 2000 and 2005, Cenor performed the assessment of 27 civil structures for Refer, aiming the closure of public railway level crossings of the North railway line, in Entrocamento/Albergaria dos Doze stretch. The 27 structures included 11 overpasses, 12 underpasses, 3 pedestrian bridges and 1 drainage culvert. The proposed solutions were designed in order to ensure the continuous operation of the North railway line, resulting, in some cases, in the definition of major structures that suspended the railway line until the ending of the construction works. The overpasses consist of portal frames of 3 spans, with main spans of about 25m and a deck of precast prestressed concrete girders. On the other hand, the underpasses consist of reinforced concrete box culverts, some of them built entirely in adjacent areas to the railway line. These structures would afterwards be pushed into their final position by means of hydraulic devices, in a process taking less than few hours.
