DESCRIPTION

The Viaduct over the Perna Seca Stream and the Cerro da Barreira Viaduct are located in the Almodôvar-S. Bartolomeu de Messines stretch of the South Motorway – A2.

Both viaducts consist of two independent decks. The decks with “TT”-cross-sections in reinforced prestressed concrete are separated by a longitudinal joint 0,2m wide.

Due to topographic restrictions, the Cerro da Barreira Viaduct includes 7 spans. with a total length of 236m between abutments comprising middle spans of 36m and side spans of 28m.

The Viaduct over the Perna Seca stream, with 9 spans and a total length of 308m between abutments, also comprises middle spans of 36m and side spans of 28m.

The height of piers varies between 10m and 30m above the ground. Moreover, cantilever abutments were defined as retaining structures.

Shallow foundations were used in all supports according to the results of the geologic assessment.
